Hastings resident Howard B. "Mac" McDowell, 80, of 2219 West 6th, died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with the Rev. Donald E. Boeschen officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings; NE. Visitation will be, Tuesday, February 14, 2006 from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to service Wednesday, at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Mr. McDowell was born June 10, 1925 to Howard B. Sr. and Althwilda (Bennett) McDowell, in Brunswick, Georgia. He graduated from the Savannah Georgia Commercial High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army Air Force from November 3, 1943 to February 16, 1946. He moved to Hastings, NE in 1947 coming from Brunswick, GA. He married Leola "Lee" York on November 16, 1947 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kenesaw, NE. He was an employment supervisor at the Department of Labor Job Service. He retired from the Nebraska Job Service August 31, 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Hastings American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles #592, past member of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security. He is survived by his wife Leola "Lee" Hastings, NE, 1 son Craig and wife Pam McDowell of Golden, CO, 1half-sister, Willa Mae Bridges of Jacksonville, 2 step-sisters, Theresa Chapman of Brunswick, GA, and Arlene Dixon of Brunswick, GA, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by, his parents, step-mother, Nora McDowell, step-father, Owland Rozier, 1 sister, Mildred B. Diestel, 1 half-sister, Shirley Chesser, 2 brothers, Kenneth McDowell and Elmer McDowell, 1 half-brother, Avera Rozier, 1 step-brother, J.A. McDowell. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, The American Legion or Eagles Club #592 all in Hastings, NE.
