Hastings resident, Howard R. Zimmerman, 80, died Monday July 16, 2007 at Perkins Pavilion, GVS, Hastings, NE. Services will be Friday, July 20, 2007 at 10:30AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 9th and California, with the Rev. Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery near Kenesaw. Visitation will be Thursday July 19, 2007 from 9AM to 9PM with family present from 6-8PM, at the Brand Wilson Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Condolences may be sent to the family from, www.brandwilson.com. Mr. Zimmerman was born October 19, 1926 to Walter W. and Irene Mary (Derr) Zimmerman in Vesta, NE. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1944. He also attended Fairbury Jr. College. On August 15, 1948 he married his sweetheart, Shirley A. Loetterle, she died March 26, 2006. They made their home in Fairbury before moving to Hastings in 1963. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad in Fairbury for 17 years. After moving to Hastings, he owned and operated Ace Liquor. After selling his business, he worked as the manage at Big G Appliance Center and then Mid-NE Individual Services. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed camping and vacationing each year in Colorado. Besides his family his other love was music and singing. He is survived by 2 daughters, Rebecca and husband Allen Jacobitz of Kenesaw, NE and Carol and husband Wesley Meyer of Portland, OR. 2 sons, Mark and wife Lisa Zimmerman and Scott Zimmerman all of Hastings. 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 1 brother, Frances Zimmerman of New Hampshire. His wife Shirley, his parents and 1 sister Marion Lucking, preceded him in death. Memorials may be given to The Peace Lutheran Church hymnal fund.
