Hastings resident, Ina Ilene (Schneller) Wendt, 97, known by everyone as Grandma Ina passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at her home.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 11 am at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings. Inurnment will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. There will be no visitation; Inas wishes were to be cremated. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ina was born June 29, 1917 to Daniel and Hannah (Johnson) Schneller in Verona, NE. She grew up on a farm one mile east of Verona. She attended Sutton High School and graduated in 1935.
Ina married Elmer C. Wendt of Harvard on September 19, 1938. They made their home northwest of Harvard on the Wendt homestead where they farmed until the mid-1960s. While in Harvard, Ina was a 4-H leader for over 20 years and also belonged to the local Glendale extension club. She belonged to the United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed working with the ladies club and other church activities. She also rode her stallion Rex in the Harvard Saddle Club events and enjoyed square dancing. She helped with the farming, daily dairy activities, gardening and flowers.
Upon moving to Hastings, Ina worked at the Singer Sewing Center until they closed. After that closed they opened the Pfaff Sewing Center. They ran that store for many years and when Elmer became ill they sold it. Later she worked for the Foster Grandparents Program and was assigned to work at Morton Elementary School and Pooh Corner where she worked for 21 years, loving the children dearly and all the staff.
She was a member of the Perky Daisies FCE club and enjoyed all kinds of crafts, crocheting, decorative painting, flowers, gardening, garage sales and auctions. She was always a loving, caring, patient individual. She loved all her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Delene Webb of Hastings, son, Warren Wendt of Springfield, MO, daughter in-law, Hazel Wendt of Saragosa, Texas, 8 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, son, William (Bill) Wendt and son-in-law, Melvin Webb.
She will be missed by all whose lives she has touched, leaving them with memories to treasure.
