Iona Rolofson, age 88 of Cairo, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Brookefield Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Paul, NE. Graveside Service will be Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Cairo with Pastor Jack Boling officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Cairo or the American Heart Association. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Iona Belle (Runge) Rolofson was born July 30, 1928 at rural Cairo to Louie and Adnelle (Whitehead) Runge. She grew up in rural Cairo and received her education at District 37 and Cairo High School. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Rolofson on August 21, 1955 at Cairo. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cairo, where she taught Sunday school for 30 years. She loved gardening, cooking, collecting recipes, crocheting, and writing letters to friends and family.
Iona is survived by her husband, Lawrence Rolofson; daughters, Kay Rolofson and Gala (Glen) Wurdeman; grandchildren, Anna Louise Wurdeman; David Lawrence Wurdeman and Andrew Donald (fianc, Lauren Schroeder) Wurdeman; sisters, Ethel Voss; Frances Harders; and Luella Millspaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; nephew and brothers in law.
