Iona Millette, 93, of Wood River died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital, Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, at the Wood River First United Presbyterian Church. Pastor Brad Jepsen will officiate with burial in Wood River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Wood River First United Presbyterian Church. Memorials are suggested to Wood River Presbyterian Church or Wood River/Alda VFW.
Mrs. Millette was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Wood River, the daughter of Carl and Mamie (Paulk) Evans. She grew up in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School in 1944.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Millette July 25, 1945, in Hays, KS. The couple made their home in Wood River beginning in 1946. They met while roller skating in Denver during World War II when Mrs. Millette worked for Gates Rubber Co.
A housewife and mother for many years, she later worked at Delicious Foods in Grand Island. She was a member of the Wood River First United Presbyterian Church, Wood River/Alda VFW Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors and Mariners. She enjoyed flowers, arranging flowers and decorating for church events, and roller skated into her 60s. She also loved animals and had many pets.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas J. and Debbie Millette Jr. of Bridgeport, Reggie Millette of Grand Island, Carl and Charlene Millette of Fort Myers, FL; three grandchildren, Michelle Duchow, Nicole Millette and Andrew Millette; and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christian and Catherine Duchow and Luke White.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Robert W. and Darrell, and a sister, Audrey.
