Iris Joy Ahrens

Iris Joy Ahrens, Grandma Jo, 82, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at CHI Health St. Francis, Skilled Care in Grand Island, NE.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. William A. Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials are suggested Messiah Lutheran Church or to Edith Abbott Memorial Library. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Iris Joy Ahrens was born February 14, 1933 at Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of Elvin & Myrtle (Plummer) Hatcher. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1951. She was united in marriage to Harold Ahrens on October 28, 1953 in Grand Island, The couple made their home in Grand Island where she was a wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, doing word search puzzles bust especially time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her husband, Harold Ahrens of Grand Island, two daughters, Corinne Ahrens and Julie and husband Jim Pedersen both of Grand Island, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister, Phyllis Johnston of Loveland, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Harold Jr., one daughter, Linda Ahrens, four brothers, and six sisters.
