Irma Weber

June 23, 1925 — September 7, 2017

Irma M. (Storm) Weber, 92, of Grand Island, formerly of Wood River, passed away peacefully at Tiffany Square September 7, 2017.

Services will be held Monday, September 11, at 10:30 a.m., at the Wood River United Methodist Church with Pastor Trudy Hanke officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Royal NE cemetery.

Irma was born May 23, 1925, at Royal to Fred and Nellie (Reed) Storm. Her twin brother died at birth.

She graduated from Royal High School and attended college at Wayne State and Kearney State where she received a BA degree in elementary education. She taught in country schools in Antelope and Hall Counties, and retired from Cedar Hollow school in 1988.

Irma married Dale Weber and they had five children: Anita (Kenny) Schultz, Kathryn (Kathy) (Pat) Schrad, Douglas (Vicki) Weber, Janet (Mike) Bergstrom and Judy (Pat) Dietz.

The family lived on a farm where Irma raised chickens, milked cows, ran a separator, raised gardens and canned. She baked many delicious things bread, cinnamon rolls, potato water glazed donuts and pies. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to grow flowers.

Irma was an accomplished pianist, inheriting her musical talent from her father. She played for churches in Royal and Wood River and at the nursing home in Wood River. She could make the piano rock when she played Twelfth Street Rag, which one family member always requested.

In addition to teaching, she worked in the Seattle shipyards as a Rosie the Riveter, the onion plant in Grand Island and Skellys caf at the Wood River exit on Interstate 80.

Irma was a member of the Wood River United Methodist Church and Ruth Circle. She had a strong faith in God and her church was very important to her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory, in addition to her children, are grandchildren Michael (Dena) Schultz, Troy (Sarah) Schultz, Steven (B.J.) Schrad, Allison (John) Healey, Jeremy (Sara) Weber, Casey Weber, Mitchell Weber, Angela (Zac) Carlson, Ashley (Mike) Clark, Ryan Bergstrom, and Matt Dietz. Great grandchildren Cody (Brooke) Schultz, Samantha Schultz, Sydney and Mallory Schrad, Dylan and Tyson Weber, Remy Mottin, Kenidee Weber, and Taegan Weber. Great great grandchildren Kenzo Carlson and Luke and Xander Schultz, son-in-law Pat Schrad, nieces Jeanette Erickson, Roberta Horstman and Sue Bittner, and nephews Robert Klabenes, Gary Storm, Ronnie Storm, Kim Blackmore and Corey Bittner, and lifelong friend, Elaine Meyer.

Irma was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Schrad, her parents, sisters Frances Blackmore and Genevieve Klabenes, brother Forrest Storm, nephew, Terry Storm, brother-in-law LaMoine Weber, sister-in-law Sharon Bittner, Dale Weber, and her infant twin brother.

Memorials may be directed to the Wood River United Methodist Church.
