Lifelong Harvard resident, Ivan Dale Stiegemeier, 79, passed away Saturday July 20, 2013 north of Harvard as a result of injuries sustained in an ATV accident. Services will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 10 am at the Harvard United Church of Christ, Harvard, NE with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the First Evangelical Cemetery with military rites. There will be no visitation the casket will not be open. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements. Ivan was born May 4th, 1934 to Carl H. and Agnes (Woelflinger) Stiegemeier in Harvard, NE. He graduated from Harvard High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army from January 1955 to January 1957. He attended Milford trade school now known as Southwest Community College and graduated in 1960. He then returned to the farm after graduation and ran a repair shop working on tractors and irrigation motors. Farming was his true passion; he left the repair shop and spent his time in the fields. In 1970 on Valentines Day Ivan married Sharon Sowers. After 2 years of farming together they had their firstborn son, Kevin Dale on May 23, 1972. Two years later a second son was born, Brian Edward on June 23, 1974, completing the family. Ivan was a member of the Harvard United Church of Christ. He served on the Harvard Fire Board for several years. He spent his whole life farming with his family. He was also a member of the American Legion in Harvard, NE. He is survived by his wife Sharon, two son, Kevin and wife Brandy, of Hastings, NE and Brian and his girlfriend Julie Brown, of Grand Island, NE, three grandchildren, Chelsey Garner of Ponca City, OK, Shailey Stiegemeier and Jaiden Stiegemeier both of Hastings, NE, one nephew Dale Bachman of Giltner, NE, nieces Catherine Sekora and husband Rick of Phillips, NE and Grace Holtzen and husband Jim of Aurora, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vera Bachman and a baby brother and one uncle, Ed Woelfinger.
