Jack Scott Richards

Jack Scott Richards, 84 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at CHI Health, St. Francis, Grand Island.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Apfel Funeral Home with the Rev. Trudy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island with military honors by United Veterans Honor Guard and The United States Army Honor Team. Visitation hours will be 5-7 Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to First Faith United Methodist Church. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Jack Scott Richards was born January 4, 1932 at Schuyler, Nebraska the son of Proctor B. & Gladys A. (Scott) Richards. He grew up in Schuyler, Nebraska, graduating from Schuyler High School with the class of 1950. He received his Bachelors of Social Science degree from Hastings College and his Masters in Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

He entered the United States Army February 8, 1954 serving in Korea and was honorably discharged December 1, 1955.

He was united in marriage to Shirley J. Auhl, August 2, 1959 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island. Jack taught social science at Grand Island Senior High for 35 years retiring in 1991.

He was a member of First Faith United Methodist Church, Grand Island, American Legion, Saddle Club, Masonic Lodge of Schuyler and retired School Personnel Association, now known as Grand Island Area Retired School Personnel.

He enjoyed reading and loved woodcarving.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley of Grand Island, three sons & daughters-in-law, Brian K. Richards of Denver, CO, Gregory S. & Darla Richards and Dwight & Laura Richards both of Grand Island, three granddaughters, Casey & Cami Richards of Denver, COand Abigail Richards of Grand Island, one grandson, Corey Richards of Denver, CO .

He was preceded in death by his parents.
