Jackson West Dinsdale, 21, Grand Island, died of an accident near St. Paul on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at French Memorial Chapel on the Hastings College campus. The Rev. William Nottage-Tacey will officiate. There will be no public visitation. There will be a private family committal at a later date. A luncheon will follow the memorial service at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

He is survived by his father and mother, Tom and Kim Dinsdale of Grand Island, his brother Michael Dinsdale of Scottsdale, Arizona. his grandmother Gretchen Dinsdale of Grand Island, his step-grandmother Gela West of Leakey, Texas; aunts and uncles Lynn and Sam Marchese of Omaha; Kirk West, Ft Worth, Texas; Susie West of Genoa, Nevada; cousins Lindsey and Katie West both of Durham, N.C., Isabelle Gronbach (Michael) of Gretna, Elizabeth White (Ross) of Chicago, Savannah, Olivia and Madeline West of Genoa, Nevada. He also survived many great aunts and uncles and lifelong friend, Kyle Beaman.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers Jack Dinsdale of Grand Island and Reece West of Leakey, Texas; grandmother Jo West of Dallas; uncle Adam West of Waxahachie, Texas.

He was born on August 2, 1992, in Grand Island. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, in 2010. He was a senior at Hastings College studying art. He was a 2013 Heartland Escort at the Ak-Sar-Ben Coronation and Scholarship Ball. He volunteered at the Central Nebraska Humane Society.

He loved working in the Hastings College art studio under the tutelage and mentorship of Tom Kreager. He was finding his stride in welding and glass blowing. At the time of his death, he was working on a project in 3D design making an animal from scrap metal -- a deer with three-foot antlers and mottled skin to represent an Axis Deer. His goal was to earn his art degree and then become a police officer.

Due to the Hastings College Art Department being such a dear part of Jacksons life, in lieu of sending flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the Art Renovation Project at Hastings College in Jacksons name.
