James Jim E. Hult, 88, of Grand Island, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Reverend Brian Pilstick officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com. James was born on August 8, 1929, in Wausa, NE, the son of Paul and Martha (Larson) Hult. He grew up in and attended school in Wausa. Jim entered the service on December 28, 1950. He served in the Navy, and reached the rank of USN Gunners Mate 3rd Class. After serving in the Japanese Occupation and Korean War, he was honorably discharged on October 11, 1954. Jim then farmed in Wausa until 1977, at which time he moved southwest of Grand Island.
On February 21, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to Betty Cramer in Grand Island. He became employed in maintenance with Chief Automotive Systems until his retirement in1993. Mrs. Hult died in 1994.
Jim was a lifetime member of VFW. He enjoyed gardening and growing flowers as well as collecting plates.
He is survived by brothers: Floyd (Janice) Hult of Raymore, MO, Alan (Caroline) Hult of Grand Island; step sons: Dennis (Barbara) Cramer of Broken Bow, NE, Jack (Diane) Cramer Mike Cramer; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Betty; brothers: Daryl and Stanley; sisters: Wanda Haynes and Rhoda Astorga.
