James "Jim" Thompson, of Grand Island died on December 16, 2024, in LaVista, NE. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Alda United Methodist Church with pastor Rachel Nkonge officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday, December 22nd at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The family requests that Husker gear be worn to the Visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
He was born on April 4, 1956, at Mount Home, Idaho to Robert and Elisabeth (Heidenfelder) Thompson. He graduated from Ralston Senior High.
Jim was united in marriage to Kimberly Komarek on January 16, 1999, in Grand Island, NE. Throughout his life he worked for ThermoKing Christensen in Grand Island and Omaha.
He was a member of the Alda United Methodist Church, Grand Island Elks Lodge #604, the band “Country Flair”, and Boy Scouts of America.
He loved playing his guitar, fishing, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and working on his old car.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kimberly Thompson; sons: Michael (Marissa) of Palmer, Patrick (Stacy) of N. Sioux City, Robert (Rachael) of LaVista, Chandler (Kaitlyn) of Lincoln, and Payton of Grand Island; daughter, Krystal Hilsgen of Watkins, MN; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brothers: Steve (Melissa) of Jacksonville, FL, Tommy (Linda) of Mascoutah, IL; and sisters: Donna (Rick) Felemonski, and Linda (Garland) Taylor.
