Janet T. Harvey, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 25th at the age of 92. Born on September 3, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Marie Quinn & Elmer Topel. She was known for her warmth, wisdom and wit, and the unconditional love she shared with her extensive family and friends.
She was married on August 7, 1954, to Jack R. Brown and after Jack’s passing, she found love again with Russell L. Harvey, and they married on December 30, 1966. Those unions were blessed with nine children, beginning a cherished legacy.
Janet graduated from the Chicago Vocational High School and served as a dedicated Legal Secretary from the late 1940’s through the mid-1990’s when she retired. From the rhythmic clack of typewriter keys to the intuitive swipe of touchscreens, her career and life spanned the evolution of personal technology. Janet’s adeptness with every generation of device was testament to her enduring adaptability.
Janet was an active member of Resurrection Church. During retirement she and Russ enjoyed traveling, many family reunions, and Navy ship reunions. She was the heart of her family, and her home was the gathering place for family celebrations, filled with laughter and the joy of being together. Throughout her life, Janet was known for her dedication to her family and friends, cherishing spending time with and teaching them the value of family, love, and perseverance.
She is survived by her; children, Gayle (Greg) Miller, Kevin Harvey, Keith (Jolene) Harvey, Joyce (Donald) Kracl, Jacqueline Harvey, Janelle Harvey (David Hoisington), Matthew (Lisa) Harvey, Russell Jr. (Shelly) Harvey, David (Brenda) Harvey; Sister Shirley O’Connor, 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and many special extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elmer Topel and Richard Topel (Helen) sister June (Ernie), and brother-in-law Richard O’Connor.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with the vigil service held at 7 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church. Fr. Jorge Canela will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery.
Janet will be deeply missed but her legacy of love and family will continue to light the way for generations to come.
