Janet Swanson, 67 of Plattsmouth, Nebraska died Wednesday May 4, 2016 at her home.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Grand Island City Cemetery with the Rev. Clark Medill and Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. Family will greet friends from 3 6 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2016 and one hour prior to graveside services at the Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Janet Swanson was born February 15, 1949 at Norfolk, Nebraska the daughter of Clem & Elsie (Henrichs) Whitley. She was united in marriage to Dennis Swanson, October 1, 1966 at Madison, Nebraska. The couple met and made their home in Newman Grove, Nebraska. They traveled the state while Dennis worked in construction. They also lived happily in Grand Island for 27 years, where she worked at Lincoln Elementary Public School in food services retiring after 17 years. The last 10 years they made their home in Omaha.

She enjoyed a life of laughter, spending time with family and friends, and helping those in need.

Those left to cherish her memory included her husband, Dennis Swanson of Plattsmouth, son & daughter-in-law, Justin & Tammy Swanson of Plattsmouth, NE, daughter & son-in-law, Melinda & Jeremy Woitaszewski of Minneapolis, MN, one grandchild, Addison Woitaszewski, sister & brother-in-law, Judy & Jerry Schaecher of Grand Island, NE, sister-in-law, Peg Whitley of Geneva, NE and special friends, Nancy Zavala and Carol Page both of Grand Island, Jerilyn Smith of Shelton, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clem & Elsie Whitley; brother, Danny Whitley; and nephew, Matt Schaecher
