Janette Yerger

November 21, 1941 — January 5, 2018

Hastings resident, Janette Ilene (Fetters) Yerger, passed away January 5, 2018, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, surrounded by her loving husband and three daughters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9, from 4-8 p.m., at Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, 505 N. Bellevue Ave., Hastings, NE.

Jans Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 10, at 11 a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Kent Rogers and Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert, officiating. Janettes wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be at the Grace United Methodist Church Columbarium at a later date.

Jan was born on November 21, 1941, to Chester Royal and Ethel Eleanor (Speer) Fetters, on their farm north of Lisco, NE. Her birth was attended by her Grandmother, Mona Fetters, acting as midwife.

Jan was the only girl attending the country school a mile north of her home from 1st grade through 8th grade. She lived with her grandparents while going to high school in Bridgeport, NE. She graduated from high school with the class of 1960 as Valedictorian and President of her class. She went on to attend Chadron State College, where she met the love of her life, George Yerger. Jan and George were married on December 17, 1961, in Lisco, NE. Three beautiful girls were born to this union; Kimberly Jan, Michele Renee, and Staci Rae.

Jan, George, and the girls lived in Wallace, Crawford, Leigh, and Grant, NE, where George taught and coached. He spent the last several years in education as a school administrator. Jan worked at Grant Elementary School as an aide in the Library and as an aide to the counselor while the girls were young. Jan was a licensed insurance agent in both Grant and Ogallala until they moved to Hastings where they both retired.

Jan and George were fortunate to be able to go on several mission trips to Tlancualpican, Mexico, as missionaries from the United Methodist Church in Grant and the Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings.

After retirement Jan volunteered to be a voice for children in court cases as part of Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA). These children in the court system had a special place in her heart.

Jan loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and watch late night movies.

Jan is survived by her loving husband, George; daughters Kimberly (Steve) Clouatre of North Platte, NE, Michele (Kent) Lawson of Norfolk, NE, and Staci (Tim Hajny) Yerger-Dieken of Lincoln; grandchildren Andrew and Angie Norman, Joel Norman, Max and Victoria Clouatre, Brooke and Cletus Woeppel, Lance Lawson, Sydney and Matt Miller, Jordan Cain, and Brett Dieken; great grandchildren Abrahm Norman, Townsend Norman, Hayden Norman, Kayde Miller, and Darby Miller; brother Duane (Penny) Fetters, sisters-in-law Diana Fetters and Lois (Al) Youngs; brother-in-law, Carlos Hambleton; close friend, Walter Dieken, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, brother Elden, sister-in-law Joyce, and niece Susan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Jans family, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), or to the memorial donors choice.
