Mrs. Rodysill was born on October 28, 1935, in Fairmont, Nebraska, the daughter of Gailard and Jessie (Patton) Philson. She grew up in Fairmont and the family moved to Grand Island in 1946, where she graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1953. Following graduation, she was employed by R.B. Lockwood, CPA. There, she met Jack Rodysill and they were united in marriage on June 2, 1962, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island, with Jan working at R.B. Lockwood until 1965, and then the Ordinance Plant from 1967-1969. She began working for the Grand Island Public Schools in Administrative Services in 1977 and remained there until her retirement in 2013 at the age of 78 after 36+ years! She was also a server for dinner meals at Riverside Lodge for a short time.
Jan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 76 years. As a faithful Christian, she was always willing to help wash dishes, help with funeral lunches, greet on Sunday mornings, or help when she could with church financial needs. Jan was active in PTA at Howard Elementary and helped Jack teach Sunday school. She especially loved spending time with her family and her grandkids. Any time she could get talking with them or attending their activities gave her great joy. She was the BEST "Gram".
Survivors include one son, Jade Rodysill and his daughters, Kaitlyn and Ava from Texas and one daughter Jacy Horst (Steve) of Grand Island and her children Haley and Braden. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Jay, and brother and sister-in-law Max and Mary Ann Philson.
"If I could give you anything the world could bestow, it wouldn't be all wrapped and tied with a bow. It would be so simple, yet more than money could buy. No one could afford it, no matter how hard they tried. It would be that you could get back, just a little of the love you’ve given away. You'd be the richest woman in the world and on that day, I'd be standing first in line for I owe more than all the rest. I didn't just have a mother, God gave me His best."
