Jerry L. Hansen, 76, of Porter Ranch, CA died Sunday, January 28, 2024, at his home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Grace United Methodist Church in Holstein with Reverend Kathy Uldrich officiating. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings. Memorials are suggested to Lewy Body Dementia Research in memory of his sister, Linda Shaw, or to the family. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
Jerry was born on October 31, 1947, in Hastings, NE to Kenneth and Marcella (Kennedy) Hansen. He grew up on the farm near Holstein. He graduated from Holstein High School and continued to UNL and graduated with a pharmacy degree in 1971. He was a member of the Nebraska National Guard.
Jerry moved to Denver and worked as a pharmacist and then moved to California and continued his work as a pharmacist. He enjoyed flower gardening and traveling the world and visited many places. His favorite was Hong Kong.
He is survived by brother-in-law, Charles Shaw; niece, Colleen (Randy) Kothe; great nephews and nieces: Nicholas Kothe, Eric (Andrea) Kothe all of Holstein, Jenna (Bradley) Reiter of Formoso, KS; and several cousins; and long-time California friends: Robert “Bob” Redfield, Ellie Santillan, and Rosalie Martinez.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Shaw; nephews: Brad and Tim Shaw; and friend and neighbor, Richard Santillan.
