Joan Marilyn Head, 92, of Grand Island, died on Tuesday, July 13,2021, at Lebensraum Assisted Living Center of natural causes associated with advanced dementia, with family at her side.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, Grand Island. Pastor Peeler will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at Messiah Lutheran Church. A social will follow in the church basement. Apfel Funeral Home – Grand Island is assisting the family.
Burial will take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Hooper Cemetery, Hooper, Nebraska. A social shall follow at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.
Joan was born to Clarence and Grace (Moody) Knoell, in Fremont, NE on August 24, 1928. She was educated in Hooper, NE and graduated from Hooper High in 1946. She married Dean F. Head on January 29, 1947 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper, NE.
Joan was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for over 60 years and held various positions in Women of the ELCA, and served on the Church Council.
Joan was an Avon Representative for over 50 years, known for zipping around Grand Island in her white VW Superbug. She and Dean enjoyed dancing and were members of the Platte Duetsche Society, the Liederkranz, and the Saddle Club. Joan was active in a local contract bridge clubs.
Joan is survived by her children, Steven of Grand Island, Ron of Colorado Springs, CO, and Deanna (David) Gaunt of Sparks, NV, grandchildren Lindsey, Meghan, Brian, and great grandsons William and Simon; cousins Alyce Mae Petersen of Schuyler, Joyce Gumb, Marion (Janet) Knoell, Gary (Judy) Knoell all of Fremont, Donna Golder of Hooper, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Dean.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Messiah Lutheran Women of the ELCA or a charity of your choice.
