Joel “Jody” was born in St. Edward, NE, on April 2, 1944, to Joseph and Shirley Struebing. He was the oldest of four children. Jody spent his early years growing up on a farm south of Wood River, and later for a short time, lived in Grand Island. He then moved to Crookston, MN, with his parents and brother Jack. Jody attended and graduated from Crookston High School.
Jody then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent considerable time in Vietnam. He was also stationed at various locations including Minot, ND, Woomera, Australia, Offutt Air Force Base, and the Nevada Test Range. While stationed in Minot, he met and married Marlene Warner on Aug 21, 1971.
Jody retired after 20-plus years in the Air Force. As part of his continuing education efforts, he received a BS in computer science from Colorado Technical University. Jody then worked for various defense contractors in both California and Colorado, finally settling in Colorado Springs, CO.
Jody was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fountain. He had a passion for family, cooking, and laughing. Jody loved a good party! Jody passed away on July 21, 2018, at the age of 74.
He is survived by children: Jeremy Struebing, Tamara (Shane) Atkin, Cheri (Dave) Bales, Buster (Linda) Warner, Sandy Schalesky, and Keven Warner; grandchildren: Misty (Matt) Connor, Jennifer (Heath) Leach, Kris (Amy) Schalesky, Kelsey Atkin, Karley Atkin; ten great grandchildren; brothers: Kim (Lynn) Struebing, Gail Struebing; aunts: Betty Williams, Neva Knerl; niece: Hannah Struebing; nephew: Michael (Stefanie) Struebing; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Jack Struebing; and son-in-law: Rickie Schalesky.
