John B. Sims, Sr.

John B. Sims, Sr., 88, of Grand Island died Saturday, November 21, 2020, at his home in Grand Island.



A private family committal service was held at the Grand Island City Cemetery where his body was entombed within the family mausoleum.



John was born May 10, 1932, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he graduated premed in college in Arkansas and came to Nebraska to become a pharmaceutical representative for Ciba and Ayerst Laboratories.



John was a Baptist by faith and was a 50-year Master Mason 32nd degree and Shriner.



Some of John’s varied interests were ham radio operator, motorcycles, boats, fishing, hunting, flying his powered parachute, and Ercoupe aircraft. He enjoyed getting together with friends over coffee several mornings a week. He enjoyed a good story and always had a piece of candy for his friends.



He leaves behind his wife, Mary Sims of Grand Island; son, John B. Sims, Jr. of Grand Island; grandson, Zachery Sims of Plainview, NE; daughter, Mary Lee Smith and grandson, Dylan Smith both of Lincoln, NE; and his sister, Louane Currie of San Diego, CA.
