John Eugene Burns

John Eugene Burns, 64 of Wood River, Nebraska passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.



Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, Nebraska with the Reverend Brad Jepsen officiating. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery in Giltner, Nebraska.



Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.



John was born on December 4, 1952 in Sabetha, Kansas to John and Winifred (Grantham) Burns. He was united in marriage to Karen Eastman on April 22, 1972. This union was blessed with 45 years together and 5 children. John enjoyed cooking, bowling, playing pool, and spending time with his family.



Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen Burns of Wood River; children, Johnathan (Bev) Burns of Phillips, Lonnie (Malinda) Burns of Rapid City, SD, Joseph (Mary) Burns of Wood River, Victoria Starkey (Jay Brown) of Grand Island, Elbert (Chrystal) Burns of Grand Island; 25 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild on the way.





He is also survived by his dad, Ralph Carman of Ord; brothers, Richard D. Burns of LA, Lloyd Blevins II (Chris) of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Mary Haynes (Steve) of FL, Michelle Carman of VA; several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.



John was preceded in death by his mother, Winifred A. Carman.
