John Manley Hunnicutt

Former Glenvil resident, John Manley Hunnicutt, 90, died after short illness Thursday, November 15, 2012 in Houston, TX. Private family memorial service at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. He was born September 11, 1922 to Ira and Kathryn (Kamm) Hunnicutt in Glenvil, NE. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John was a college professor and Sociology department chair at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire for many years. Known to his students as Dr. John he touched the lives of many students and colleges. He worked in the Upward Bound program and Mission Study Center in Black River Falls. Upon Johns retirement he moved to Port Orchard, WA with his wife Ruth of 51 years and became very active at the Naval Museum in Bremerton, WA. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, travel and grilling salmon for friends coming to visit. John and Ruth would welcome friends and family into their home in Port Orchard. John is survived by his daughter, Mari Hunnicutt of Bloomington, MN; son, Thomas Hunnicutt of Eau Claire, WI; sister, Margaret Mason of Kearney, NE, cousins Ruth Conner of Glenvil, NE; Denny Conner of Central city, NE; Glen Hunnicutt of Hastings, NE; and second wife Theresa of Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Katherine; and first wife, Ruth Hunnicutt.
