John 'Paul' Gallagher

March 10, 1927 — June 9, 2017

Kenesaw resident, John Paul Gallagher, 90 passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.

Services will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10:30 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell with Father Adam Sughroue and Father James Benton officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 pm, Rosary will be at 7 pm Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Heartwell with military rites. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established by the family.

Paul was born March 10, 1927 to John Jack and Martha (Hoban) Gallagher in Heartwell.

He graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1944. He and Anabel Ryan were married at Holy Family Catholic Church on August 16, 1950 in Heartwell. He served in the United States Army from January 4, 1951 and was released with a medical discharge September 7, 1951. He worked in the tool and dye department at Dutton Lainson Co. retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Sacred Catholic Church in Kenesaw, and a former member and lector at Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell. He served with the American Legion in Kenesaw, Heartwell Lions Club and was on the Heartwell school board.

Paul loved his grandchildren and attending their activities. He enjoyed reading, golfing, having coffee with the guys and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife Anabel of Kenesaw, children, Diane (Darwin) Kroll of Juniata, Sheila Knudson (Jim Williams) of Kansas City, MO, Gregg (Vickie Jones) Gallagher of Overland Park, KS, Tammy (Matt) Stryson of Seward, Colleen Hughes of Fargo, ND, Shawn (Shelly) Gallagher of Kenesaw, Shane (Jess) Gallagher of York and Chad (Abby) Gallagher of Phillips, NE, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, his parents, John Jack and Martha (Hoban) Gallagher, his sisters, Phyllis (William) ORourke, Kate (Del) Pearson, Mary Jane (Jim) ORourke, Marlyn Gallagher and Betty (Bud) Anderson, best friend and sister in law, Jim and Rosemary Hoban.
