Harvard resident, Joseph L. Williams, 90 died Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Harvard Rest Haven Retirement Home, Harvard, NE. Services will be Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Church of Christ Church with Mr. Ken Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2006 from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE and one hour prior to service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Mr. Williams was born, March 3, 1916 to Joseph L. Sr. and Maude (Cooper) Williams, in Melbourne Arkansas. He attended and graduated from the Melbourne, Arkansas schools. He then enrolled in the College at Russellville, Arkansas. He played minor league baseball. He joined the Navy, December 4, 1941 and did his 13 weeks Basic Training at Abilene, Texas. He was then sent to Fort George Wright Hospital outside, Spokane, Washington for further medical training. After 2 years he was sent to Harvard, NE to set up a Medical Dispensary, Air Corps were already flying in and out of the Base. He then married Thelma C. Wehnes in Belleville, Kansas on November 16, 1944. She died October 20, 1994. After discharge they moved back to Hastings, NE from Atterbury, Indiana he was a resident of Hastings from 1945 to 2004. He spent 32 years in Government Services including 20 years as a Naval Ammunition Inspector. He was a house painter for 2 years before retiring. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and was active in Sunday school and Bible Study. He enjoyed watching sports, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his 2 sisters, Lucille Johnson of Wenatchee, Washington, and Mabel Smith of Bakersfield, CA, and nephew and niece David and Brenda Wehnes of Harvard, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, his parents 1 sister and 4 brothers. Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ, Hastings, NE.
