Joseph P. Paskoski, 78, of Falls Church,VA died Monday October 7, 2024. He was the son of Stephen and Kathleen (Fitzgerald) Paskoski, a World War II British War Bride. Joe was raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and graduated from Tolman High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army 1966-1969 as a personnel specialist. Joe earned a BA in English Literature from the University of Maryland in 1971; he graduated 1983 from Catholic University with a MA in Library Science.
Joe worked 10 years as a civilian contractor for the U.S. Navy before his 39 year career at the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) in 1985. Joe received the 50 year federal career service award in 2021. As a new Depository Library Inspector Joe attended his first GPO Federal Depository Library Conference in 1986 where he met his future wife Janice, who was attending her first GPO conference as a depository librarian. They began a long distance relationship which became a 25 year marriage in Virginia. Later in his GPO career Joe worked on web content for the original Federal Depository Library Program website. In recent years Joe was the Senior Outreach Librarian working with depository libraries throughout the country.
Joe had fond memories of his parents’ Rocky Point summer cottage. He ran in marathons after his Army service. He liked going to the National Gallery of Art exhibits and foreign films. Joe influenced his wife to become Washington Nationals season ticket holders years before the 2019 World Series championship. He listened to Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and classical music. American University WAMU Radio and a muted CNN televised news were on daily in the home. He went to local summer park concerts. Joe enjoyed small stage music and entertainment performers during the annual Nebraska State Fair. He chose teleworking beyond the COVID pandemic and postponed his retirement.
Joseph is survived by his wife Janice (Watson) Paskoski. He is survived by two brothers Mark (Charlene) Paskoski and Russell (Melissa) Paskoski, four cousins, two grandnephews and one grandniece.
Visitation Service will be held at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday October 16, 2024 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. The Graveside Service will be held in the Grand Island (Nebraska) Cemetery on Tuesday October 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WAMU Radio, American University.
