Joyce Bittfield

Kenesaw resident, Joyce Bittfield, 84, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Kenesaw Haven Home, Kenesaw, NE.

Services will be Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church in Kenesaw, NE with Rev. Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 1 pm to 8 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be given to the Kenesaw United Methodist Church or the Kenesaw Volunteer Fire Department.

Joyce was born April 8, 1930 to Edward E. and Garnet E. (Nicholls) Guilkey in Kenesaw, NE. She graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1947 then she attended Hastings College. She married Ernest F. Bittfield on August 6, 1950 in Kenesaw, Ernest passed away October 4, 2005.

She was a lifelong member of the Kenesaw United Methodist Church; she taught Bible school and Sunday school and was the church pianist and organist for over 30 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and a 50 year American Legion Auxiliary member. She was a leader of the Junior Misses 4-H Club, and a member of the New Idea Extension Club.

Joyces hobbies were cooking, sewing, ceramics, needlepoint and crafts. For 28 years she and her husband were snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona.

She is survived by one son, Michael E. Bittfield and one daughter, Sue A. Bittfield both of Lincoln, NE, one brother John Guilkey and wife Elaine of Superior,NE, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, one daughter, Sherry (Bittfield) Emery and one sister, Marqretta E. (Guilkey) Clark.
