Junette I Hiatt

Junette I. Hiatt, 93, of Grand Island, died Saturday, December 16, 2023, peacefully at home.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday, December 19 at Third City Christian Church. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Hiatt was born June 8, 1930, in Atlantic, IA, the daughter of August and Lizzie (Christensen) Anderson. She grew up in Atlantic and received her education through the Atlantic school system. She was united in marriage to Cecil J. Hiatt on September 25, 1948, in Atlantic. The couple resided in Atlantic where she worked for Coca Cola. The couple later moved to Grand Island where she was homemaker for five children, occasionally assisting Cecil at Earl May Nursery and Garden Center.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling, crafting, gardening, and going to her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s events. Spending time with her family was the most important part of her life. She was also an avid Big Red fan.

  
Survivors of the immediate family include sons and daughters- in-law: Russell (Karen) Hiatt of Columbus, Randy (Sherri) Hiatt of Grand Island, Rick (Kim) Hiatt of Greely, CO; daughters and son-in-law: Rhonda Hawthorne of Grand Island, Renie (Mark) Kula of Plattsmouth; grandchildren: Laurie, Kristin, DeLee, Beth, Cindy, Justin, Jillian, Megan, Amanda, Lindsay and Stephanie; great grandchildren: Tanner, Tayton, Cassie, Jordan, Landen, Aubree, Zander, Zoey, Jace, Cruz, Hayes, Paisley, Meena, Eilee, Mariyah, Sutton, Hazen, Adelyn, and Lane.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Cecil; parents; 11 brothers and sisters; and daughter-in-law, Susan Hiatt.
