Katherine Olive Sweet

Hastings resident, Katherine Olive Sweet, 104, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. Services will be Friday, February 18, 2011, at 1:30 PM at the All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village with Rev. Art Schakat and Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Glenvil Cemetery; Glenvil, NE. Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE and one hour prior to service time at the chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Katherine was born January 26, 1907 to Charles and Zada (Conway) Orr in Burt County, NE on a farm southwest of Decatur, NE. As an infant she and her family moved to Onawa, IA. She attended country school near Tieville, IA. She married Clement Sweet on February 15, 1928. They celebrated 80 years of marriage in 2008. Katherine and Clement lived on a farm near Decatur, NE, later moving into town. In 1954 they moved to Fremont, NE, then returned to Decatur in 1958, where they lived until moving to Hastings, NE to the Good Samaritan Society in 1987. In 2004 she and her husband moved to Perkins Pavilion, GSS. Clement passed away in June 2008. While living on the farm Katherine was a homemaker, she raised chickens, always planted a large garden, and canned many vegetables. She is survived by two children, son, Philip Sweet and wife Evelyn and daughter, Anita Willis, all of Hastings, NE, 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clement, two great grandchildren, and three brothers, Ralph, Charles and Riley. Memorials may be given to the family.
