Ladonna Rae Payne

June 23, 1933 — December 28, 2018

LaDonna Rae Payne, 85, of Grand Island died Friday December 28, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.



Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday January 4, 2019 at First Christian Church in Grand Island with the Reverend Julie Western officiating. Burial will be at the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday January 3, 2019 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to The American Heart Association. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



LaDonna Rae was born on June 23, 1933 in Hastings, NE the daughter of Raymond and Clara (Stephens) Spencer. She grew up in Hastings and received her education from Hastings High School. LaDonna was united in marriage to Allan C. Payne on June 20, 1953 at Grand Island, Nebraska. After which the couple remained in Grand Island, where she was employed by the Ordinance Plant. The couple also lived in South Carolina and San Diego, California throughout their life. In addition to working at the Ordinance Plant, LaDonna sold Avon for 20+ years and worked at St. Francis Hospital.



She was a member of First Christian Church, Tops, Eagles Club, and served as a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital after retirement. She enjoyed playing cards, antiquing; she especially loved attending concerts, traveling with friends and family, Husker games and the casinos.



Those left to cherish her memory include her four sons and one daughter, Allan & Cindy Payne of Grand Island, Steve Payne of Las Vegas, NV., Thomas Payne and Richard & Audra Payne, all of Aurora, CO., Diana Payne of Grand Island; six grandchildren: Tara (Payne) Dietrick, Tanya (Payne) Williams, Kyle Payne, Joshua Payne, Veronica (Payne) Hilzer, Victoria Payne; 10 great-grandchildren: Theodore (Teddy) and William (Will) Dietrick, Heather, Austin and Molly Williams, Brityn Zelasney, Kaitlin, Madisyn and Kyle Payne Jr., Grayson Hilzer; and a sister, Ramona Antill.



LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Allan, brother Darrel Spencer and sister Shirley Martin.
