Larry G. Brannagan, 76, of Grand Island died November 25, 2017 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral service will be at 10:30 am Tuesday November 28 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday with a Rosary vigil at 6 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Resurrection Catholic Church or Wood River Fire & Rescue. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Larry was born on November 5, 1941, in Hastings, Nebraska to Arvene and Theresa Brannagan. He grew up on a farm near Doniphan and graduated from Doniphan High School in 1959. On July 21, 1962, he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Moody at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. After which the couple lived in Doniphan and Cozad before settling in Grand Island in 1972. After working for Metz Baking Company and Central States Distributing, he purchased Mr. Bs Grocery Store in Wood River in 1980, and later purchased Larrys Market in Shelton with his son Larry, in 1987. He worked alongside Rose Mary at Mr. Bs for 36 years, until they retired in 2016.
He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Wood River Community Club and the Saddle Club. Larry enjoyed spending time with family, attending grandkids activities, playing cards with family and friends, horse racing and football.
Those left to cherish Larrys memory are: wife, Rose Mary Brannagan; children: Larry (Joanne) of Shelton, NE, Kent (Dawn) of Lincoln, NE, Mike (Jackie) of Winter Park, CO, and Sheri (Tony) Schirmer of Ravenna, NE; in-laws: Tom and Margaret Klostermeyer of Grand Island, Bill Moody of Winterset, IA, Joan Brannagan of Hastings, LaVila Brannagan of Grand Island and Bill Paustian of Arizona; grandchildren: Kalli Brannagan, Kassie (Aaron) Neujahr, Kalyn Brannagan, Kobe Schirmer, and Kooper Schirmer; great-grandchild: Sawyer Bamesberger.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Paustian; brother, Wayne Brannagan; brother, Darrel Brannagan; and infant brother, Francis.
