Larry Gene Niemoth, 78, of Wood River, NE died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Cairo. Memorials are suggested to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.
Larry Gene Niemoth, son of Irvin and Evelyn Niemoth was born July 23, 1944 in Grand Island, NE. He passed on October 1, 2022.
After graduating from Foreman High School in Chicago, Larry went to work at Illinois Tool Works. He met the love of his life when she, Sharon Willard, came to Chicago for work and stayed with his family. They were married on September 5, 1964 and settled in Chicago. In 1969, Larry and family moved back to Minnesota where they farmed until he was injured in a farming accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down.
In 1976, Larry moved the family to Grand Island where he has many relatives.
From the early 1980’s through 1993, Larry worked for Miller’s Appliance as an electronics repairman. On August 29, 1994 He started work for Walmart as a greeter, he worked for 22 years, retiring September 2, 2016
After retirement he spent much time on his computer.
For three years, Larry fought sores and infections and for a short time seemed like he had won. But a few months later it was starting again and he couldn’t fight it all again. He was ready to go home to the Lord.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dwayne (Butch) and Fred (Fritz), and by his sister Judy.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Willard); and children Debbie Niemoth, Wood River; Lynn (Thad Fischer), Lincoln; Mike (Patty) Niemoth, Harvard; Chris Niemoth, Grand Island; Roy (Terri) Niemoth, Grand Island; brother Steve Niemoth and sisters Jolene Valley, Tammy McCarthy, and Laura Johnson; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. He was loved by any who knew him.
