Larry James Holder Sr.

Larry James Holder, Sr., 80, of Grand Island, NE died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at his home. 

A celebration of life for Larry will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Apfel Funeral Home with Rev. Bev Hieb officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. 

He was born on July 25, 1944 in Grand Island, NE to George and Margaret (Wagner) Holder. He grew up in Grand Island and received his education from Grand Island Senior High. He later went on and received a certificate in finish cabinetry. He was united in marriage to Eva Davis on July 26, 1964 in Lebanon, KS. To this union were three children: Angela, Lydia and Larry Jr. The couple lived in Grand Island where he was employed at the Ordinance Plant and North Platte for the Union Pacific Railroad. He later moved to Grand Island where he met and later married Betty Sandoe. While in Grand Island he worked as an owner operator of LJ’s maintenance and most recently as a bus driver and crossing guard for Grand Island Public Schools. 

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran.

He is survived by his daughters, Angela (James) Beason of Alexandria, AL, and Lydia (Walter) Wolford of Big Springs, NE; grandchildren, Alexis (Derek) Beckius of North Platte, Ceaghan (Piper) Holder, Savanna Wolford, Kaitlyn Wolford all of Big Springs, NE, Phillip Beason of Birmingham, AL, and James Beason Jr. of Alexandria, AL; four step-granddaughters; and brother, George L. Holder of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Larry James Jr. and his spouse, Betty Sandoe.
