Laurence E. “Larry” Evans, 87, of Grand Island died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 30th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM Monday, January 29th at Apfel Funeral Home concluding with a vigil service at 6:00 PM.
Laurence Earl Evans was born April 3, 1936, at Hartington, NE to Clair A. and Margharite V. (Leschinsky) Evans. He grew up and received his education in Lexington NE, the Abbey in Cannon City, Co and Milford Tech, Milford NE .
Larry was united in marriage to Mary E. Hans in 1958. They lived in a few Nebraska towns until they made their home in Grand Island, Nebraska. Mr. Evans worked various jobs, Snap on Tools, City of Grand Island and Wortman Motor Co. He retired from Wortman Motor Co in 1994 after 25 plus years. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Becky Evans of Grand Island, Scott and Robyn Evans of Decatur, IL, Steven and Brenda Evans of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Ignacio Gonzalez of Yakima, WA; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and Special Friend Alice Johnson of Polk, NE
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Darla Evans, and their infant son, Tyler.
He was interested in anything automotive, especially his 1962 Dodge Dart and 1970 Cutlass, he also kept in touch with his family via phone. You could expect a call anytime day or night just to say hello. He loved to travel, driving was his mode of transportation, and he didn’t believe making hotel reservations and spent a few nights sleeping in his pickup. Surprise visits were not out of the question.
