LaVern E. Cline Sr.

Hastings resident, LaVern E. Cline Sr., passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 1:00p.m. at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel in Hastings. There will be no visitation due to cremation. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings with military rites by the Hastings Veterans Service.

LaVern was born on June20th 1932 to Earl and Hazel Louise (King) Cline in Riverton, NE. On March 15th 1952 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Kennedy in Hastings, Ne. LaVern served during the Korean War - 1951-1952. They later moved to Colorado where they started a family of nine children. In the early 70's theyreturned to Nebraska where he worked for Mid-States Construction, until he semi-retired in 1980. He then worked for the Tribune for many years until he passed away.

He loved spending time with all of his children and grandchildren; he was always there for everyone. He loved hunting and fishing. He was great at telling stories to all the kids. He was beloved by his family and his memory will be cherished by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Cline, infant twins, Melvin and Marvin Cline, and sisters, Janice Norris and Mildred Godsey.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Hastings, children, LaVern Cline Jr. of Grand Isand, Michael Cline, Hazel Stafford, Carol Cline, William Cline, Johanna Beurskens and Gwen Zeckser all of Hastings, Jerry Cline of Kenesaw and Donna Wagner of Lincoln. They were blessed with 34 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren.
