Lavonne L. Benker

Former Hastings resident, LaVonne L. Benker, 99, passed away peacefully Monday, November 7, 2016 at Valhaven Rehabilitation & Care Center, Valley, Nebraska.



LaVonne was born July 26, 1917 to Edwin and May (Bower) Wilson in Blue Hill, Nebraska. She married Marvin L. Benker May 15, 1935. Marvin passed away February 4, 2004. LaVonne retired from the Hastings Regional Center as a switchboard operator. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings.



She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Raymond) Buhr of Omaha; son, Jerry (Jeanne) Benker, Grand Island, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Carole Benker, Hastings; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marvin, son Greg, and grandson Jeffrey Buhr, and 6 siblings.



Services will be Thursday, November 10, 2016 @ 1:00 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, with The Very Reverend Catherine Scott officiating. Visitation with family is Wednesday, November 9th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings.
