Former Kenesaw resident, Lela M. Dick, 101, died Friday, May 15th, 2009 at the Rolling Hills Assisted Living in Topeka, Kansas. Services will be Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 2 PM at the Brand-Wilson Chapel in Hastings, NE with the Rev. David L. Speicher officiating. Visitation will be today 5 PM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Graveside services will follow at the Rosedale Cemetery, Rosedale, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Lela was born May 11, 1908 to Junius and Minnie (Sullivan) White near Prosser, NE on a farm near the Platte River. She attended grade school in Rosedale, NE and graduated from Doniphan, NE in 1926. She married Loor (Bud) Dick on September 10, 1932 he passed away in 1987. They had 2 sons. Lela owned and operated the Fairmont Ice Cream Parlor in Kenesaw, NE from 1945 to 1949 and worked with her husband operating Dicks Produce in Kenesaw, NE from 1945 to 1976. She moved to Hastings in 1980 moving to, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village and then she moved to Topeka, Kansas in 2002. Lela was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in both Kenesaw and Hastings, NE. Lela was known for her wonderful sense of humor. She loved cooking and entertaining family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by 2 sons, Bob Dick of Torrance, CA and Gary Dick of Topeka, KS, daughter-in-law, Sherrie Dick, 2 granddaughters, Teri Poff and Kristi Bristow both of Wichita, KS and 3 great grand children, Kevin Powell and Baylee and Payton Bristow. She was preceded in death by, her parents, her husband Bud, and 2 sisters, Beulah and Eva White-Farm. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made in Lelas name to a charity of your choice.
