Leola B. Mcdowell

June 16, 1925 — September 15, 2014

Hastings resident, Leola B. McDowell 89, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings Village.



Services will be Friday, September 19, 2014 at 2:30 pm at the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcus Mackay and Pastor Benjamin Siebert officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com



Memorials may be given to the Peace Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.



Leola was born June 16, 1925 to Roy and Lydia (Fischer) York in Juniata, NE. She graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1943. She was employed by the Hotel Clarke from 1943 to 1972 then Dutton Lainson from 1972 till retiring in 1987.



She married Howard Mac B. McDowell on November 16, 1947, he passed away February 11, 2006.



Leola was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings. She was a member of the Hastings American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Club #592, and President of the 8 and 40 Adams County Petit Salon No. 486. She also volunteered many hours at the Grand Island Veterans Hospital and Veterans Home.



She is survived by her son, Craig (Pam) McDowell of Golden, CO.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mac,her twin sister Neola Maurer, three other sisters, Fern McCoy, Elnor Echternach and Madene Elliott, and one brother Duane York.
