Leona M. Heyen

April 9, 1929 — April 15, 2018

Harvard resident, Leona M. Heyen, 89, passed away, Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.



Services will be Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11 am at the Harvard United Church of Christ, Harvard, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery, Harvard.



Memorials may be given to Harvard Rest Haven or Harvard Volunteer Rescue Squad.



Leona was born April 9, 1929 to Grover Cleveland and Bertha (Kuck) Culp in Fairbury, NE. She graduated from Fairbury High School then attended college. She married Ernest F. Heyen on July 30, 1950, Ernie passed away, September 7, 1992. They moved to Harvard in 1962. Leona taught school in a one room school house in Kansas and was also a pre-school teacher.



Leona was a member of the Harvard United Church of Christ, and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She volunteered at Good Samaritan Society, and she was a Girl and Boy Scout leader.



Leona loved attending family, friends and especially grandchildrens sporting and musical events. She also enjoyed reading, puzzle books, playing cards and crafts.



She is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Donald) Bartlett of Plattsmouth, Delores Heyen of Hastings and Shirley (Dallas) Doupnik of Harvard, three sons, Ernest (Sue) Heyen of Plattsmouth, Douglas (Verna) Heyen of Overland Park, KS and Wendell (Linda) Heyen of Greeley, CO. She is also survived by grandchildren Scott (David Teal) Bartlett, Ray (Shannon) Bartlett, Glen (Janell) Bartlett, Kevin (Anne) Heyen, Alex (Jen) Heyen, Abby (Ryan Von Elling) Heyen, Andrew Heyen, Dallas Doupnik Jr, Kylie Doupnik, and 14 Great-grandchildren, two sisters, Loretta (Ivan) Ayers and Murial Oliver, three brother in laws, Walter (Blanche) Heyen, Harold Heyen and Leonard Heyen, two sister in laws, Doris Culp and Darlene Culp.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest, four sisters, Elsa Dafford, Ruth Baker, Dorothy Jonas and Margaret Culp and three brothers, John Culp, Russell Culp and Louis Culp.
