Hastings resident, LeRoy D. Dies , 81 of 2210 West 7th, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital; Hastings, NE. Services will be Monday, March 27, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Brand-Wilson Chapel, Hastings, NE with the Dr. William Deahl Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE with military rites. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Brand-Wilson Chapel, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Mr. Dies was born October 23, 1924 to Sidney and Elsie (Kent) Dies in Hiteman, Iowa. He graduated from Hiteman High School in 1942. He served in the Army from April 21, 1943 to December 18, 1945 during WWII, in the infantry; he served in Europe and received 2 Purple Hearts and many other decorations. He married Evelyn Higday, November 1, 1946 in Leon, Iowa. They moved to Hastings in April of 1948. He worked for Lamphiear Construction for 35 years and then Welton Real Estate Enterprises until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW and the DAV Club's all in Hastings, NE. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, of Hastings, 1 daughter, Ginny Ware of Hastings, 1 son, LeRoy Dies Jr. of Castle Rock, CO, 3 Grandchildren and 3 sisters, Alice Skomorowski of Roseville Michigan, Dorothy Ferguson of Albia, Iowa, and Elsie Judge of Davenport, Iowa. He is preceded in death by, his parents and 3 brothers. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Hastings, NE or the family.
