Lisa E. Jessen, 95 of Grand Island died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Wedgewood Care Center, Grand Island.
Services will be 10:30 AM Monday at the Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with the Rev. Adam Snoberger officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Lisa Elli Wilhelmine Jessen was born, December 23, 1921 in Schleswig, Germany the daughter of Walter Richard and Dora (Marxen) Bruenecke. At the age of three and half the family left Germany and made their home near Phillips, Nebraska for five years, later moving to Grand Island where she has resided her entire life. She received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1940.
She was united in marriage to Fredrick W. Jessen, February 15, 1946 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island where she was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Skagway for 20 years and in the later years she assisted people with house work and child care.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, the Platt Duetsche and the Liederkranz.
She enjoyed writing letters, sewing, cooking and loved babysitting. Lisa became a citizen of the United States at the age of 80.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters & son-in-law, Kathy L. Martin, Ann M. Jessen and Christine & Gene Jones all of Grand Island, one grandson, Monty & Brenda Martin of Grand Island; one sister, Eleanore Fuller of Grand Island; and a great-granddaughter, Cali Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fredrick Jessen; one son, Richard W. Jessen; two brothers, Richard Bruenecke and Otto Bruenecke; two sisters, Waltraud Hallock and Betty Ryan; and a son-in-law, Mac Martin.
