Hastings resident, Lloyd Laverne Lutkemeier, 87 passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at his home. Services will be Friday, September 21, 2012, at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Graveside service will be at 1 pm at the St Paul Cemetery in Holstein, NE with military rights. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 4 pm to 9 pm and Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 9 am to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials are suggested to Mary Lanning Hospice or Faith Lutheran Church both in Hastings. Lloyd was born May 18, 1925 in Campbell, Nebraska, the son of (Fritz) Carl Fred and OTillie (Reiss) Lutkemeier. He attended a rural country school near Campbell. Lloyd served his county in the Army from June 22, 1944 through June 24, 1946 as part of the 83rd Infantry Division, fighting in the European Theatre during the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. On October 1, 1950 he was united in marriage to Verleen Einspahr at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. Lloyd farmed north of Campbell until moving to Hastings upon his retirement 1986. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, and a life member of American Legion and the VFW. He served on various community boards. During his retirement he enjoyed his gardening, woodworking, and playing cards with his friends. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Verleen, of nearly 62 years, two daughters, Beverly Anderson and her husband Andy of Hastings, and Joyce Swanson and her husband Gary of Beatrice, 3 grandchildren, Scott Swanson and Stacey Peters and her husband Matt all of Beatrice, and Kalyn Wolfe and her husband Lance of Hastings, and 5 great-grandchildren, and sister, Thelma Willie of Longmont, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brother-in-laws, and a great-granddaughter.
