Lois Jean Gangwish

August 13, 1930 — September 4, 2016

Lois Gangwish, 86, of Shelton passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016. Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Shelton United Methodist Church with Rev. Melody Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Shelton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 PM on Wednesday at the church. Memorials have been suggested to Asceracare Hospice, the Shelton United Methodist Church or to United Campus Ministries UNK. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.

Lois Jean Dingess Gangwish was born August 13, 1930 to John and Lillian (Ross) Dingess and grew up in Huntington, West Virginia. She received her Bachelors Degree from Ottawa University and her Masters in Special Education from Kearney State College. Lois was united in marriage to Dwight Gangwish on December 30, 1951 in Huntington, West Virginia; after which the couple lived in Shelton, NE where she was employed by the Youth Development Center in Kearney, she also lived in Sun City West, Arizona and was also employed as an English teacher at Northwest High School in Grand Island.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in both Shelton and Kearney as well as First Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, AZ during the time she lived there. She was active in many professional organizations, including the educational association for the Youth Development Center in Kearney, NE and she also served as President of the Nebraska Correctional Association. Her numerous religious activities included, being a sponsor and teaching Methodist Youth Fellowship as well as other Sunday School classes. She was President of the Central Nebraska United Methodist District Womens Society and served on many other church boards and committees. She was active in PEO, Red Hat Society, Our Nite Out Extension Club and was recently admitted as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her son, D. Vaughn Gangwish; her daughter, Karin Gangwish Walsh; five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dwight Gangwish; and son, Brad Gangwish.
