Lois June Porter, 91 of Grand Island, died December 22, 2016 at CHI Health St. Francis, Grand Island.

Services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Reverend Russell Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 1:00 P.M. until service time at the Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Lois June Porter, better known as June, age 91, went to be with our Lord on December 22, 2016 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was born June 19, 1925 to Jesse and Ruby (Summers) Gregory in Amsterdam, Missouri. June, one of 12 children, grew up in Amsterdam and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1943. On May 1, 1943, she was united in marriage to Cecil R. Porter in Butler, Missouri and to this union two children were born, Roxie and Wayne. They lived in Amsterdam and Hastings, Nebraska, before settling in Grand Island. In Hastings, June worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot. When they moved to Grand Island, she was employed as a Laboratory Secretary at the Veterans Hospital. When she retired, she had 48 years of government service. She was a long-standing member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Grand Island. She enjoyed sewing, camping and boating, watching sports on television and in particular following the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team as she was an avid fan, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

June is survived by her daughter, Roxie R. Underwood and husband Jim of Garfield, Arkansas; son, Wayne C. Porter of Grand Island; one brother, Willis Pod Gregory and wife Karen of Amsterdam, Missouri; two sisters, Ila Faye McMeins and husband Richard of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and Sharron Hope Blake of Buffalo, Missouri; four grandchildren, Randa Vernon, Jess Underwood, Stacia Porter, Melissa Meyer; and six great grandchildren, Reis Vernon, Raegan Vernon, Jordon Underwood, Javis Underwood, Riley Meyer, and Kaylee Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson Keith Bryan Porter; four brothers, N.D., J.B., Jack, and J.T.; and four sisters; Nina, Doris, Nadine, and Jean.
