Loretta Jean Broberg

August 12, 1947 — November 15, 2024

Grand Island

August 12, 1947 - November 15, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Loretta (Varah) Broberg on November 15, 2024, at the age of 77. Loretta was a trailblazer, a dedicated educator, and a loving mother and grandmother who left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Loretta was born on August 12, 1947, and grew up on a farm near Trumbull, Nebraska. She received her undergraduate degree from Kearney State College and began her career in teaching. Her passion for education was evident, but she transitioned to a career in the pipeline industry, where she broke barriers as the first woman area supervisor in the field. Despite her success, Loretta’s love for teaching drew her back to the classroom, where she inspired countless students with her enthusiasm for math.

Loretta was blessed with two sons, Bryan and Brad Broberg, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her career took her to various cities throughout the Midwest, with significant time spent in Sioux City, Iowa, before she returned to Grand Island, Nebraska, to conclude her teaching career.

Her passions extended beyond her professional achievements. Loretta was an avid woodcarver and found immense joy in teaching math and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a proud owner of countless puppies and delighted in showing visitors the newest tricks that she taught to her loyal cavapoo, Jazz. Loretta loved sharing her passions with others, leaving a legacy of creativity, knowledge, and love.

Loretta is survived by her two sons, Bryan Broberg and his children Ellie and Ben; and Brad (Kristin) Broberg and their sons Cade, Will and Reid. Also left to cherish her memory are sisters, Connie (Alan) Hoagland and Bonnie (Mike) Will along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Loretta is preceded in death by her parents Carl & Luella Varah and her sister Linda Kort.

Funeral services will be held on November 21, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by services at 11:30 AM, and a lunch to follow.

Loretta’s memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, Loretta. Your legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire us all.
