Lorraine Jacqueline Brabander

July 12, 1925 — February 14, 2014

Lorraine Jacqueline Brabander, 88 of St. Libory, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Brookefield Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Paul, Nebraska.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday in the Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Pastor Bob Rhodes will be officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island or the Nebraska Childrens Home in Omaha, NE.

Lorraine was born July 12, 1925 to John and Rose (Jerabek) Kiser. She grew up on the family farm near the Middle Loup River south of St. Paul, NE. She attended country schools and graduated from St. Paul High School. Lorraine taught school at Howard County District #51 in St. Libory.

On July 30, 1946, she married Clarence Brabander. He was a cattle feeder and farmer in the St. Libory area. Lorraine helped Clarence wherever he needed her and was the bookkeeper. They raised two sons, Barry and Dale. During their married life they built and lived in three new houses. Clarence died in 1990. Lorraine continued to live on the farm until August 2013 when she moved to Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

Lorraine was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working on various projects there. She was very good at visiting people and loved company. She especially enjoyed having her sons and grandson stop in for coffee every morning. Visits with her great grandchildren were extra-special.

Lorraine is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Barbara Brabander of Grand Island, Dale and Delores Brabander of St. Libory; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don Kiser of Grand Island, Raymond and Carol Kiser of Eagle, NE, and Larry and Susan Kiser of St. Paul, NE; sister RoseMarie Muller of Littleton, CO; sister-in-law, Jessie Kiser of Dannebrog, NE; grandchildren, Daryl and Dilek Brabander of Papillion, NE, Angie and Jason Blanco of Scottsbluff, NE, Lynda Brabander of Lincoln, NE and Mitch Brabander of Grand Island; great-grandchildren, Erin and Alayna Brabander, and Issac, Henry, Elena, and Mia Blanco; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; brother, David Kiser; a great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Swede Muller; and niece, Jennifer Kiser.
