Louie R. Engel

Louis R. Engel, 93 of Doniphan, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at V.A. Medical Center, Grand Island.



Services will be 10:30 a.m Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Doniphan United Methodist Church, Doniphan, NE. The Reverend Kelly Karges will be officiating. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery, Doniphan.



Visitation hours will be 4-6 Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.



Louis was born on February 28, 1923 in Doniphan, Nebraska the son of Emil and Nellie (Brittain) Engel. He grew up in Doniphan and graduated from Doniphan High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was united in marriage to Joyce Stonehocker on November 30, 1947.



Louis was a member of the Doniphan United Methodist Church, Eagles Club, Platte Duetsch, VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing in church, and baseball, especially the Yankees.



Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Connie Engel of Loup City, Brad Engel of Doniphan; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Opal Engel of Arizona.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Engle; brothers, Raymond Engel, Ralph Engel, Marion Engel, and Robert Engel; sister, Erma Newth; and son, Rodney Engel.
