Lucille M. Hurst, 94, of Grand Island passed away on Friday November 2, 2018 at Lebensraum Assisted Living Facility in Grand Island.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday November 6 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Derek Apfel, CFC will officiate. Cemetery dedication will be held at the funeral home at the same time as the service. There will be no visitation.
Lucille was born January 1, 1924 in Shakopee, MN to John and Cecilia Smith.
Survivors of her immediate family include her three sons and three daughters-in-laws; Kenneth F. and Sharon Hurst of Topeka, KS., John H. and Marsha Hurst of Lincoln, and Butch F. and Kathy Hurst of Grand Island; two sisters Bernice Hein and Darlene Smith of Minnesota.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Scott Hurst of Lincoln, Jonathan Hurst of Texas, and Amy Rosewicz of Kansas; five great grandchildren, Brittney Martin of Grand Island, Maizy and Hayden Hurst of Lincoln, Jill and Katherine Rosewicz of Kansas; one step-grandson, Matt Loos of Lincoln and Josie Loos and Elizabeth Loos of Lincoln, and one step-great grand-daughter Kailey Starlin of Colorado. She also has two great-great granddaughters, Karsyn and Berkley Martin of Grand Island.
Lucille grew up in Shakopee, MN and at the age of 18 married Cleo F. Hurst on July 9, 1942 at Clay Center. They lived in Grand Island where she was employed at Woolworths, the Ordinance Plant and finished her working career as a dietitian at the Veterans Hospital.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and had a passion for cooking and baking.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cleo F. Hurst; granddaughter Jody Hurst; three sisters, Mabel Smith, Mary Winch, and Carol Rein and one brother Willis Smith.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society of Grand Island or Howard County Medical Center Foundation of St. Paul.
