Luella Lou M. Reynolds, 84, of Grand Island, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at CHI Health St. Francis, Grand Island.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Gollaher Chapel, Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island with the Rev. Matt Fowler officiating. Lous wishes were for her body to be cremated. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Central Nebraska Humane Society. Private family committal services will be held at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mrs. Reynolds was born November 8, 1930, in Pender, Nebraska the daughter of Raymond and Minerva (Schwedhelm) Cooney.
Survivors of the immediate family include one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Nancy Reynolds of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Kevin Quinn of Virginia; and one sister-in-law, Janice Cooney of Walthill, NE.
Additional survivors include four grandchildren, David Reynolds and Will, Megan and Kerry Quinn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rollie in 2012, and one brother, Mike Cooney.
She lived with her Grandmother Schwedhelm while attending high school in Bancroft, graduating from Bancroft High School. She attended Wayne State College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1952. She received her endorsement in media from the University of Nebraska in Kearney in 1970. She worked as a Home Extension Agent in Dakota County Nebraska.
She married Rolland E. Rollie Reynolds on August 6, 1952. The couple made their home in Sioux City where Rollie was stationed with the Air Force.
She lived on a farm in Howard County Nebraska where her two children were born. Rollie & Lou lived on the farm from 1954 to 1980. She was the media specialist at the St. Paul Public Schools from 1970-1980 and later worked as a real estate agent in the Grand Island area for over 20 years. In 1980, they moved to Hidden Lakes in Grand Island.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served on the Trustees Committee. She also volunteered in the office at both Trinity and First Faith United Methodist Church. Lou was an active member in Eastern Star and P.E.O.
