Lynette Kay (Thompsen) Steiner, 70, of rural Holstein, NE passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 10, 2025. Memorial service will be 2:30 PM on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Hastings First Methodist United Church with Pastor Lance Clay officiating.
Lynette was born on April 9, 1954, in Lake Preston, SD, to Christian and LaJoy (Clendening) Thompsen. She was the eldest of three siblings. Lynette, also known as “Lindy” to her family and friends growing up, attended elementary school in Esmond, SD and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1972. Following in her mother's footsteps, Lynette pursued a career as a Registered Nurse. She graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in Mitchell, SD in 1975. Her first nursing position was in South Sioux City, NE, as a pediatric nurse. She later moved to Hastings, NE, where she continued her nursing career at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. Over her 40+ year nursing career, Lynette worked in various nursing fields, with a significant portion dedicated to home health care.
On May 30, 1981, Lynette married Larry Steiner in her childhood church in Esmond, SD. Together, they raised three children: Nathan, Troy, and Rachelle. Lynette cherished her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed taking them to the pool, going on bike rides, and teaching her granddaughters how to sew. Lynette and Larry attended numerous events to support their children and—later in life—their grandchildren. This included horse shows, choir and band concerts, sporting events, dance recitals, and talent shows. She always had freshly baked treats in the house, with her banana bread and Texas brownies being particular favorites among her grandchildren.
Beyond Lynette’s dedication to her family and nursing career, she also had a passion for crafting. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, refurbishing old furniture, and repainting the walls of her home, much to her husband's amusement. She maintained a beautiful and clean home, embracing minimalism before it was “cool”.
Lynette is preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her precious granddaughter, Maizie Goshorn; her brother, Greg Thompsen; and her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Nathan (Kylie) Steiner, Troy (Katie) Steiner, and Rachelle (Kevin) Goshorn; her grandchildren Judah, Haddie, Grace, Olivia, Nora, Jed; step-grandchildren Kasen, Konner, Sophia, and Ryker; sister Barb (Faustino) Topete; sister-in-law Carol Thompsen; along with many other close relatives and friends.
