Marion Edward Liess, 75 of Grand Island died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 am on Wednesday morning at Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island with Rev. Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery in Wood River. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 pm with a 7 pm Prayer Vigil at the church. Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Hospital Foundation.
Marion Ed Liess was born on April 28, 1939 at Indianola, NE, the son of Gilbert and Lola (Fritsch) Liess. He grew up in Wood River and attended school there.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 28, 1956 and was honorably discharged on October 16, 1957. Ed was united in marriage to Lois Blume on April 8, 1967 in Grant, Nebraska. Ed then lived in Grand Island where he worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and at Bosselman Inc.
Ed was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln as well as St. Marys Cathedral in Grand Island. He enjoyed traveling, photography, visiting historic cemeteries, watching television, listening to music and especially staying in touch with his family and freinds.
Ed is survived by 4 brothers, Joseph (Loraine) Liess of Grand Island, Paul (Susan) Liess of Lincoln, Charles (Nancy) Liess of Sidney and Kenneth Liess of Alda, 3 sisters, Mary Ellen Merithew, Linda Martin, and Elaine Rauch, all of Grand Island, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Ted Merithew and James Martin and a great-nephew, Steven Hansen.
